What is Fibromyalgia?
Fibromyalgia is an illness with multiple symptoms
that may be mild in the early stages, but progress
to severe in the late stages. Myofascial pain
syndrome, chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic
candidiasis, vulvar pain syndrome, and irritable
bowel syndrome are really part of the fibromyalgia
disease complex Fibromyalgia has no set symptoms,
and patients can have all or any combination
thereof. Listed here are the most common:
- Central Nervous System: Fatigue,
irritability, nervousness, depression,
impaired memory and concentration, anxiety,
insomnia.
- Musculoskeletal: Pain and
generalized morning stiffness in the
muscles, tendons, and ligaments of the
shoulders, neck, back, hips, thighs knees,
ankles, feet, elbows, wrists, fingers, and
chest. Joint pains, foot or calf cramps,
numbness and tingling in the face or
extremities.
- Irritable Bowel: Also called
spastic colon, mucous colitis, or leaky gut.
Symptoms include nausea, indigestion, gas,
bloating, pain, cramps, constipation
alternating with diarrhea.
- Genito-urinary: Frequent
urination, bladder spasms, pungent urine,
burning urination. Vulvodynia (vulvar pain
syndrome) includes vaginal spasms,
irritation, and painful intercourse. Intense
PMS and uterine cramping are common.
Symptoms of fibromyalgia are worse
premenstrually.
- Dermatological: Various rash may
appear with or without itching. Hives, red
blotches, itchy bumps or blisters, eczema,
seborrhea, and rosacea. Nails are often
brittle and hair falls out prematurely.
Strange sensation are common such as cold,
heat (especially palms, soles and thighs),
crawling, electric vibrations, and
super-sensitivity to touch.
- Head, Eyes, Ears, Nose, and Throat:
Headaches, dizziness, vertigo or
imbalance; dry eyes, itching and burning
with or without crusty discharge upon
awakening, blurred vision, nasal congestion
and post nasal drip, painful burning tongue
and mouth, abnormal tastes (scalded, bad,
metallic) ringing in ears, sensitivity to
light, sounds, and odors.
- Hypoglycemic Syndrome: This is a
separate entity. Thirty percent of female
and twenty percent of male fibromyalgics
suffer both conditions. Sugar craving
accompanied by tremors, sweating, anxiety,
panic attacks, heart pounding, faintness and
frontal headache.
Why Conventional
Medicine, Chiropractic Spinal Adjustments,
Physiotherapy, Massage
Therapy, and Numerous Herbal
Remedies May Only Provide
Temporary Relief?
Patients with fibromyalgia go from one
doctor to another, hoping to find a cure for
their disease, only to be disappointed. Most
family physicians are not trained to know
the complexities of fibromyalgia and thus
focus on the symptoms, prescribing
ineffective or toxic medications. They
prescribe NSAID's, narcotics, analgesics,
and mood altering drugs such as Prozac. Some
medications may help reduce the severity of
the symptoms, however in many cases the
patient's condition is made worse by further
depressing the patient's nervous system,
causing more fatigue and mental confusion.
The result is that patients are even less
able to control their lives than they were
before the treatment. Chiropractic Doctors
relieve their patient's muscle pain with
spinal adjustments, massage, and
physiotherapy. These treatments can be
helpful, but usually provide temporary
relief for this condition. Nutritional
supplements are good for general health, but
may only give temporary relief for some of
the symptoms. The cause of the disease in
conjunction with alleviating the symptoms,
must be the focus of the treatment, in order
to give patients lasting relief.

I have two herniated discs
in my lower back and had pain going down both legs. The medications and
injections that my doctor gave he helped somewhat, but the treatment
that I have been getting here has really made a big difference.
The pain
in my legs is gone. I highly
